Veniamin Gialouris is an award-winning Australian director and screenwriter of Greek and Greek-Cypriot descent. His work spans short form, narrative and commercial, and has screened at festivals such as Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Flickers’ Rhode Island, Sydney Film Festival, Flickerfest, and St Kilda Film Festival. Veniamin directed the short film GORGO which won Best Direction of a Student Film at the Australian Directors’ Guild Award and won Best Short Film at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). Veniamin holds a master’s degree in directing from Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and a postgraduate certificate in creative writing and literature from Western Sydney University. Characterised by formal rigour and the synthesis of theory with practice, Veniamin’s films explore the diasporic identity through a lens that contemporaries the mythic.
