Sarah Spillane recently directed, wrote and executive produced the Netflix feature film True Spirit, based on Jessica Watson, the youngest solo individual to sail around the world. True Spirit premiered at Number 5 worldwide upon Netflix release in early February. Sarah is set to write and direct the upcoming film Nola. Sarah’s debut feature film Around The Block (starring Christina Ricci, Jack Thompson, and Ruby Rose) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and was released internationally in 2014. Sarah won several awards for Around The Block including an ADG Award.
Sarah wrote the pilot for an adaptation of crime thriller novel The Body Reader, by New York Times best-selling author Anne Frasier, now in development with Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) and Kevin Kelly Brown (Seven Seconds, Trumbo). Sarah also has several other features, a franchise, and several series in development including The Mediator, based on the YA series by Meg Cabot. Sarah created, co-wrote, and is attached to direct the original crime-drama series Rebel, for Jay Firestone and Prodigy Pictures. Rebel has been adapted and published as a graphic novel (overseen by Sarah), currently in its fifth edition. Sarah has written and directed award-winning shorts including This Life, Blackground, The Manual, Australian Tails, and The Millennium Men.
