Sara Kern is a Slovenian-Australian screenwriter and film director based in Melbourne. Her debut feature Moja Vesna premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2022, and had its Australian premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival. The film was nominated for Best Film and Best Director by the Australian Film Critics Association and won the Preseren Fund Prize, a Slovenian national award for outstanding artistic achievement. Kern’s previous award-winning short films Good Luck Orlo and Vesna Goodbye screened at festivals around the world including Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.

Kern studied Film Directing at The Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television Ljubljana and worked for several years as a screenwriter for the Slovenia Children Youth Programme before moving to Australia.

Kern currently has several feature film projects in development.
