For over a decade, Ruth Underwood worked in television drama in the UK before making the move to Australia in 2018, where she then headed up Synchronicity Films Australia’s drama slate until 2022. There, she was integral in attaining the rights for the international bestseller, THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ (2017), which she went on to story produce, running the script department through development and production, and story-lining the adaptation alongside lead writer Jacquelin Perske. The six-part series aired in 2024 on Sky Atlantic in the UK and on Stan in Australia.

Ruth has several other notable credits, having served as writer and Script Producer on the Logie-award nominated series CRITICAL INCIDENT (Stan), Script Editor on THE CRY (ABC/BBC One), WATERLOO ROAD (BBC One) and TAGGART (ITV), and finally as Assistant Producer on both CLIQUE and STONEMOUTH for BBC. Recently, Ruth script produced the Logie-nominated limited series GOOLAGONG (Werner Films/ ABC).

As a screenwriter, Ruth has a number of projects in development, including three drama series, and two features. Ruth regularly takes part in writers’ rooms for production companies including Endemol Shine, CJZ, Werner Films, Lingo, Jam TV and Fremantle. In 2026, Ruth was selected as a member of the delegation for Screen Australia’s Partner with Australia (UK) Initiative, designed to deepen creative and commercial partnerships between the Australian and UK screen industries.
