Nicholas VersoScreenwriter | Director

Nicholas Verso is an Australian writer/director, who recently created, wrote and directed the television adaptation of the award-winning novel INVISIBLE BOYS for Stan. Released in 2025, INVISIBLE BOYS explores the challenges faced by a group of gay teens in a remote Western Australian town. In additional recent credits, Nick directed episodes 5-8 of the drama SWIFT STREET (SBS), which premiered internationally in competition at Canneseries after being selected as one of only eight global entries in the short-form category.

His first series as a creator, writer, director and producer – CRAZY FUN PARK – screened on ABC in 2023, and subsequently earned Nick several accolades, including a Logie Award for Most Outstanding Children’s Program, an Asian Academy Creative Award in the same category, an Australian Directors’ Guild (ADG) Award for Best Direction, and an Australian Writers’ Guild Award  (AWGIE) nomination. In 2019, Nicholas won an ADG Award for his work on the Indigenous series GRACE BESIDE ME (Magpie Pictures/ABC/NITV). His other credits include the Christmas horror TOYS OF TERROR (2020), the BAFTA and Emmy award-winning NOWHERE BOYS (Matchbox Pictures), THE UNLISTED (Aquarius Films), and IN OUR BLOOD (Hoodlum Entertainment), the latter of which was nominated for an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award for Best Miniseries.

Nick’s work regularly showcases his passion for stories involving mental health, LGBTIQ+ issues and youth culture. His debut feature BOYS IN THE TREES (2016), premiered at the Venice International Film Festival before screening at festivals around the world including Toronto, Busan, Sitges and winning Best Feature at Austin. No stranger to critical acclaim, his short film THE LAST TIME I SAW RICHARD (2013) won an AACTA Award for Best Short Film and was honoured by the Academie des Cesar in Paris. Nick is currently writing and set to direct the murder case feature THE SURFACE OF VENUS for Fremantle and Nicky Weinstock / Invention Films.

Nicholas has attended the Berlinale Talent Campus, Binger FilmLab Directors Coaching Programme (Amsterdam), trained with Song Of The Goat theatre company (Poland), was awarded an Asialink Arts Fellowship to work in robotics labs in Beijing and became a Churchill Fellow to study showrunning practices in the USA and UK television industries.
