Mithila GuptaScreenwriter

Mithila is an Indian born, Aussie bred screenwriter/creator who has been writing popular television for over a decade. She currently has a slate of her own ambitious projects for a global audience with a keen eye on India. She is in post-production on her first ever creation, a sweeping romance FOUR YEARS LATER (SBS/Easy Tiger) shot in Mumbai, Jaipur and Sydney. Mithila is also adapting Alka Joshi’s THE HENNA ARTIST for Miramax TV.

Mithila has most recently written on two seasons of BUMP (Stan, The CW and BBC) and four seasons of FIVE BEDROOMS (Paramount+/Peacock/BBC). She was Head Writer on THE UNLISTED (ABC/Netflix) on which she wrote several episodes including the pilot. The series won the International Youth Prize in 2020. She’s also written on international hit DOCTOR DOCTOR (Nine/AcornTV), THE HEIGHTS (ABC/BBC), PLAYING FOR KEEPS (Ten), WINNERS AND LOSERS (Seven), HOME AND AWAY (Seven), TRIP FOR BISCUITS (ABC), and TOYBOX (Seven). She was the assistant script editor on gripping sci-fi CLEVERMAN (ABC/AMC). Mithila started her career in the story room of Australia’s longest running drama, NEIGHBOURS (Ten/Channel 5) – where she introduced an Indian family to the previously all white cast.

Mithila passionately aspires to diversify the Australian industry – both in front of and behind the camera. She believes true inclusion begins on the page. Mithila mentors several emerging writers and is a founding member of the Australian Writer’s Guild’s first ever Diversity and Inclusion committee.
