Kodie BedfordScreenwriter | Director | Playwright | Executive Producer

As one of Australia’s most sought-after writers, Kodie Bedford is the creator, writer and executive producer of the darkly comedic crime series RECKLESS (BBC), which premiered to rave reviews in 2025, and was produced in her home state of Western Australia.

Over the past two years, Kodie has earned several writing credits, most recently penning episodes on the popular series TERRITORY (Netflix), RETURN TO PARADISE (BBC), and seasons two and three of RFDS (Seven Network). RDFS and RETURN TO PARADISE was both awarded the Logie for Best Drama Program in 2024 and 2025 respectively, and TERRITORY was nominated in the same category. Her contribution as executive producer, co-writer and script producer on ALL MY FRIENDS ARE RACIST (ABC) helped earn the series Best Short Form Comedy for the 2021 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards. Likewise, she co-executive produced, script produced and wrote for the AMC+ Indigenous vampire series FIREBITE. On the comedy anthology SUMMER LOVE (ABC)Kodie co-wrote and directed the episode titled Charlie and Zeke, and is additionally credited as a writer on MYSTERY ROAD: ORIGIN, which was nominated for Best Drama Series at the AACTAs.

Kodie’s other television credits include MYSTERY ROAD (ABC), SQUINTERS (ABC), GRACE BESIDE ME (NITV/ABC), and TROPPO (ABC) based on the successful Candice Fox novel CRIMSON LAKE. She made her directorial debut with a short horror film, SCOUT, which was included in the horror anthology feature film DARK PLACE, produced by Noble Savage Pictures. The film premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2019.

In 2019, Kodie received the Balnaves Fellowship to develop her own play with Belvoir Theatre, from which she subsequently created CURSED! Staged for the Belvoir Theatre 2020 season, CURSED! won both best stage play and the major award at the 2021 AWGIE Awards. The play was also shortlisted for the prestigious NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting and the Multicultural NSW Award.

Kodie started her career as a cadet journalist for SBS in 2008, before moving to the ABC as a researcher for the documentary series MESSAGE STICK. Following her departure from the ABC in 2015, Kodie has worked as a freelance writer, co-founding the Indigenous arts group Cope St Collective.
