Jonathan auf der Heide is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, and currently works as a lecturer at the VCA Film and TV School. He was the second unit director for the ABC telemovie The Secret River, and is attached as a writer and director on several feature films currently in development.
In 2008 his short film Hell’s Gates, which he wrote, directed and edited, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and won Best Student Film and Best Emerging Filmmaker. Jonathan later adapted the short into a feature, Van Diemen’s Land, with co-writer Oscar Redding, making his feature debut as a director. Van Diemen’s Land screened at numerous festivals internationally and won a Special Mention for the New Visions Award in Sitges at the Catalonian International Film Festival. Jonathan directed for the comedy web series Cop Hard, as well as producing the series. In 2013, Jonathan directed the short film Fog as part of the compendium feature The Turning, based on Tim Winton’s short story collection, and produced feature documentary Ukraine Is Not A Brothel, which screened at Venice International Film Festival.
