Jonathan auf der HeideScreenwriter | Director

Jonathan auf der Heide is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, where he currently works as a lecturer.

His short HELL’S GATES (2008)which he wrote, directed, and edited, premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival and won Best Student Film and Best Emerging Filmmaker. Jonathan later adapted the short into a feature, VAN DIEMEN’S LAND (2009), with co-writer Oscar Redding, making his feature debut as a director. VAN DIEMEN’S LAND screened at numerous festivals internationally and won a Special Mention for the New Visions Award at the Catalonian International Film Festival.

Jonathan directed and produced the comedy web series COP HARD (2011), directed the short FOG as part of the compendium feature THE TURNING (2013), based on Tim Winton’s short story collection, and produced the feature documentary UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL (2013), which screened at Venice International Film Festival. This documentary also picked up an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award for Best Feature Length Documentary.

He was the second unit director for the telemovie THE SECRET RIVER (Ruby Entertainment/ABC) and is attached as a writer and director on several features currently in development.
