Jon Bell hails from Casino on the North Coast of NSW and is a proud Wiradjuri and Bundjalung man. Jon created and wrote the 2013 drama series The Gods of Wheat Street with Every Cloud Productions for ABC. He is passionate about telling Indigenous stories, something which is reflected in his other television credits, which include both series of Redfern Now, Ready For This, The Warriors, and Cleverman, which won the SPA Award for Best Drama Production in 2016.
Jon wrote and directed the short The Chuck In, a ten-minute film supported through Screen Australia’s short film initiative: FLASH BLACK. The Chuck In screened at the Sydney Film Festival and the ImagiNative Film Festival in Toronto. His other short film credits include And Justice for One and Two Big Boys produced by Kath Shelper.
Jon is in development on a number of projects including Pemulwuy, a film about the proud and feared Aboriginal warrior.
His feature Moogai has received 2020 funding from Screen Australia and is in development with Causeway Films and No Coincidence Media.
