Jessica BrookmanScreenwriter

Jessica Brookman is a Melbourne-based writer who served as a writer, script editor and script producer across all three seasons of Nickelodeon’s ROCK ISLAND MYSTERIES, which was nominated in 2022 for Best Children’s Program at the AACTA awards, and in the same category at the 2025 SPA Awards.

As script editor, Jessica worked on series two of ABC and Amazon Freevee’s TROPPO. Likewise, in addition to script editing on the International Emmy Award and BAFTA-winning ABC series NOWHERE BOYS, Jessica also wrote, and subsequently went on to script edit the NOWHERE BOYS feature, THE BOOK OF SHADOWS. In other credits, she wrote for THE SECRET DAUGHTER, which was nominated for a Screen Producers Award for Best Drama Series Production of the Year in 2018, and on the first and second season of YA series ITCH, produced by Komixx International.

Jessica got her start in the industry on the long-running television drama series NEIGHBOURS with Fremantle Media, working as storyliner, story editor and script writer. While writing for NEIGHBOURS she also script edited the independent feature film THE CARETAKER, which won Best International Feature at Buffalo Screams Horror Fest, Best Feature at Seattle True Independent Film Festival and Best Feature at DC Independent Film Festival, Washington in 2012.

In 2019 Jessica was selected to take part in Scripted Ink’s Showcase of Australia’s Best Writers to Hollywood and in 2018 Jessica won a placement in the highly competitive Scripted Ink/Screentime Hothouse Initiative. Alongside the slate of television projects Jessica has developed, she regularly collaborates with fellow writer Eloise Healey. Together they are developing numerous projects including their unproduced pilot script BLACK CREEK, which is supported through the Australian Writer’s Guild Pathways Initiative and Shane Brennan’s Scripted Ink.

Jessica graduated from UCLA’s Professional Program in Screenwriting in 2012 and was nominated for the Nate Wilson Award for Most Promising Student. She is also working on her debut novel in her spare time.
