Jessica Brookman is a Melbourne-based writer who served as a writer, script editor and script producer across all three seasons of Nickelodeon’s ROCK ISLAND MYSTERIES. The series was nominated in the Best Children’s category at the 2022 AACTA awards, and in the same category at the 2024 Screen Producers Australia (SPA) awards. In recent credits, Jessica contributed as script editor on series two of ABC and Amazon Freevee’s TROPPO. In addition to writing and script editing on the International Emmy Award and BAFTA-winning television series NOWHERE BOYS, she also script edited the feature NOWHERE BOYS: THE BOOK OF SHADOWS, wrote for THE SECRET DAUGHTER, which was nominated for a SPA Award for Best Drama Series in 2018, and for both the first and second season of YA series ITCH, produced by Komixx International.
As a writer, Jessica got her start working as a storyliner, story editor and writer on the long-running television drama series NEIGHBOURS. While writing for NEIGHBOURS, she also script edited the independent feature film THE CARETAKER, which won Best International Feature at Buffalo Screams Horror Fest, Best Feature at Seattle True Independent Film Festival and Best Feature at DC Independent Film Festival, Washington in 2012.
In 2019 Jessica was selected to take part in Scripted Ink’s Showcase of Australia’s Best Writers to Hollywood and in 2018 Jessica won a placement in the highly competitive Scripted Ink/Screentime Hothouse Initiative. Alongside the slate of television projects Jessica has developed, she regularly collaborates with fellow writer Eloise Healey. Together they are developing numerous projects.
Jessica graduated from UCLA’s Professional Program in Screenwriting in 2012 and was nominated for the Nate Wilson Award for Most Promising Student.
