Garry Phillips is one of the country’s most experienced and highly acclaimed Directors of Photography, who has been recognised multiple times by the Australian Academy of Cinema & Television Arts (AACTA) and the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).
His 30+ years of experience in the industry has seen him deliver some of Australia’s most iconic film works to date; including GETTIN’ SQUARE (Universal Pictures), CANDY, starring Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish, and most recently, SPIT (Tracking Films) and KID SNOW (Unicorn Films.) For his work on Lionsgate’s THE RAILWAY MAN, Phillips was the recipient of The Milli Award, which is Australia’s highest cinematography honour, as well as Cinematographer of the Year & The Golden Tripod Award at the ACS Awards, and a nominee of Best Cinematography in a Motion Picture at the AACTAs.
Garry’s commitment to deepening audience experiences of cinema can likewise be seen in his diverse work in television. He was the Director of Photography for all 3 seasons of the critically acclaimed ABC drama TOTAL CONTROL, and served in the same capacity on Amazon’s PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK, ONE NIGHT for Paramount+, Stan’s YEAR OF and BUMP, Netflix’s IRREVERENT, Foxtel’s THE END and ABC’s JACK IRISH. Internationally, Garry worked on the SKY UK series A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES, Channel 4’s INDIAN SUMMERS and THE MISSING 2 for Starz.
