Christiaan Van VuurenScreenwriter | Director

Most recently Christiaan directed the Feature Film A Sunburnt Christmas, nominated for two AACTA Awards, winning the SPA Award for ‘Best Telemovie or Miniseries’, and winning Christiaan the Australian Directors Guild Award for ‘Best Direction in a Movie made for TV or SVOD. He also wrote and directed the AACTA Nominated half-hour special Dom and Adrian: 2020 for Stan. Christiaan is currently directing episodes of the new Catherine Tate series Queen of Oz, produced by Lingo Pictures for BBC1.

He is a co-creator, co-writer and lead performer of Over and Out, which won Best Short Form Series at Canneseries 2019 and is currently being developed for television. He co-wrote and co-directed Location Scouts for Goalpost Pictures which enjoyed a run of international success, taking home Best Foreign Web Series at Florida Film Festival 2020, Best Web Series at the LA Film Awards 2019, Best Web Series at Top Shorts Film Festival 2019, Best in Show at the IndiFEST Film Awards and Best Web Series at the Global Film Festival Awards 2019.

Christiaan is one of the creators, writers, directors and stars of the half-hour comedy series Soul Mates, which had two seasons on the ABC and SeeSo in 2014 and 2016, resulting in an ADG Award nomination for Best Direction in a TV or SVOD Comedy Program. As the directors of Bondi Hipsters, Christiaan and his brother Connor won an ADG Award for Best Direction in an Original Online Project.

Christiaan directed on Squinters, Sando and The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting  for ABC and Jungle, hosted and co-wrote the feature documentary ‘Big Deal’ for ABC and Madman, co-hosted The Slot for Foxtel, and wrote two episodes in season two of See-Saw’s Emmy Award-winning The New Legends of Monkey for Netflix.

He is currently developing several projects, including the comedy-horror feature film Croak with his co-writer/co-director brother Connor to be produced by Chloe Rickard (Jungle) and Bridget Callow-Wright (Midwinter Films). Croak follows a misfit band of teenagers as they struggle to defeat a giant mutant cane toad plaguing their town, and the corrupt mining company that created it.

In the branded space, Christiaan has written and directed content for Old Spice, Virgin, Vittoria, Coke, Sony, Ikea, AMEX, Unilever, Northern Territory Tourism, Tourism Portland, Sydney Airport, and a Cadbury/MTV series that won the Astra Award for ‘Most Outstanding Use of STV in a Consumer Ad Campaign’, and co-directed Sacha Baren Cohen’s 2021 MTV VMA’s acceptance piece in which Sacha performed as Ali G, Borat, Bruno, The Dictator and himself.

Christiaan’s work online has had over 150million views including the musical comedy numbers ‘Activewear’, ‘A Song About Birds’, ‘The Life Organic’, and ‘Australia’s Deadliest Animals’. He has also directed music videos for Tim Minchin, Briggs and Kate Miller-Heidke.

Christiaan’s career began online creating Youtube videos, before he and his brother Connor won the Grand Jury Prize at the One80Project and created a 60 minute telemovie called SICK! which aired on MTV and earned an ADG Award nomination for ‘Best Direction in a Television Comedy’ and a development deal with Pivot (USA).

Christiaan’s acting credits include The Other Guy (Stan), Bloom (Stan), Stag (BBC), Top Of The Lake: China Girl (Sundance TV), Abe Forsyth’s film Down Under and Ben Elton’s feature ‘Three Summers’.
