Cathy Randall is a writer and director whose first feature film, Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger, starring Toni Collette and Keisha Castle-Hughes, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Cathy took home the Best Director prize at the Hamburg Film Festival. The screenplay was nominated for an AFI Award, an Australian Writer’s Guild Award and was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Award.
Cathy wrote Return to Nim’s Island, the sequel to Nim’s Island which starred Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin for Walden Media.
She co-wrote the upcoming feature film True Spirit for Netflix, based on Jessica Watson’s solo sailing journey around the world. Sarah Spillane (Around The Block) is directing.
Cathy has several projects in development including three television series, two of which she created / co-created and a feature screenplay.
Cathy’s latest feature screenplay, Santa Whitebeard was runner up in the Animal Logic Entertainment 2021 Screenplay Contest and was one of two projects chosen by Dame Changer’s Project to Market Accelerator 2021 initiative to help finance outstanding female lead projects.
