Jory AnastScreenwriter

Jory Anast is a Californian born, Australian raised screenwriter and script consultant.

Her debut feature SEQUIN IN A BLUE ROOM, had its world premiere at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival, winning the Audience Award for Best Film. After being nominated for an AACTA, the film was released theatrically and acquired by Amazon as its first Australian film for its platform. Anast reunited with director and co-writer Samuel Van Grinsven for their sophomore film WENT UP THE HILL starring Vicky Krieps and Dacre Montgomery. The film – produced by Causeway Films (THE BABADOOK, TALK TO ME) and Pop Films (SAVAGE) – premiered at Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews.

Jory completed her Masters in Screenwriting at the American Film Institute Conservatory, where her thesis screenplay ON OUR LAST NIGHT TOGETHER won the William J. Fadiman grant. Her graduating film BENNY GOT SHOT played in competition at festivals including Cannes, American Black Film Festival and Atlanta, where it won the Filmmaker-To-Watch Award. Following her time at AFI, Jory created and wrote the limited mini-series I, TOO, DREAM AMERICA for new media company Blackpills.

In 2021, Jory co-wrote the documentary P!NK: ALL I KNOW SO FAR, directed by Michael Gracey. She served as Script Consultant on Gracey’s Robbie Williams biopic BETTER MAN. She is currently in development on a number of feature and series projects, including the next musical feature film helmed by Gracey.
