Alberto Di TroiaScreenwriter | Playwright

Alberto Di Troia is a writer and script producer who has worked extensively across both screen and theatre. Recently, Alberto served as the co-writer of Episode 2 and script producer on the crime drama THE SURVIVORS (Tony Ayres Productions/Netflix), based on the bestselling novel by Jane Harper. The series reached #2 on the Netflix global streaming charts, ranked in the Top 10 in 85 countries, #1 in five countries and Top Five in territories including USA, UK, Canada and Australia. THE SURVIVORS was also nominated for Best Miniseries at the 2026 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), and the Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Awards.

In 2022, Alberto was the inaugural Victorian recipient of the SBS Emerging Writers Incubator, which saw him join Tony Ayres Productions (TAP) as a development assistant. In this role, he contributed to several TAP/ABC projects; writing on the children’s TV series THE SPOOKY FILES and script coordinating on the critically-acclaimed FIRES. Further, in 2026 Alberto was selected as a recipient of Australians in Film’s Talent Gateway program, where he will receive tools and guidance to succeed in the global market.

 In theatre, Alberto is the Co-Director of award-winning performance company Stage Mom, which produced his plays TRULY MADLY BRITNEY (Theatre Works, 2019) and LOVE YOU BITCH (Theatre Works, 2019). TRULY MADLY BRITNEY was presented in Melbourne Theatre Company’s Cyber Electric season and is currently taught on the syllabus of La Trobe University’s performance writing course. With Stage Mom, Alberto also co-created the live art works I STILL HAVEN’T FOUND WHAT I’M COOKING FOR (which has toured nationally) and LOVE ME (BAR)TENDER (commissioned by Darwin Festival and remounted at Arts House Melbourne). Alberto has received project funding from Creative Victoria, The City of Melbourne, Midsumma Festival and was a Besen Family Writers Placement at Malthouse Theatre. Additionally, Alberto has also been recently selected as a 2026 finalist for the highly competitive Queensland Premier’s Drama Award, and as a result is developing a new play with Queensland Theatre.

Alberto has also worked extensively in film post-production, including as a freelance editor and in-house at Melbourne-based firm The Butchery. He was the Artistic Director of INTO THE LIMELIGHT, a major community filmmaking program for participants living with mental illness, which premiered in a sidebar at the St Kilda Film Festival. Finally, he is also a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film & Television) and the Master of Writing for Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts.
