Benjamin Law is a writer, author, journalist, and presenter.

Recently, his play DYING: A MEMOIR (2025), adapted from the memoir by Cory Taylor, premiered at the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC). Benjamin made his playwriting debut with the poignant familial comedy, TORCH THE PLACE (2020), which premiered at the MTC to great critical success, and opened at the Queensland Theatre Company in March 2026.

In the television space, Benjamin is the co-creator and writer of the comedy drama series WELLMANIA (Netflix). His other recent television credits include the AWGIE award-winning NEW GOLD MOUNTAIN (Goalpost/SBS); SISTERS (EndemolShine/Network Ten); and the two-part documentary WALTZING THE DRAGON (Wildbear/ABC) which he co-hosted with his mum. He created and co-wrote the television adaptation of his first book THE FAMILY LAW (Matchbox/SBS), with the first season being the most-watched program on SBS in 2016. THE FAMILY LAW returned for two further seasons, winning two Equity Ensemble Awards for Best Comedy Ensemble and a SPA Award for Best Comedy. Benjamin was an Associate Producer on the documentary DEEP WATER: THE REAL STORY (2016), which details the gay hate crime epidemic that bloodied Sydney’s coastline in the 1980s and 90s. Benjamin holds a PhD in television writing and cultural studies.

He is also a celebrated author, having written the books THE FAMILY LAW (2010) and GAYSIA: ADVENTURES IN THE QUEER EAST (2012), both of which were nominated for Australian Book Industry Awards.
