Sarah Spillane’s debut feature film Around The Block (starring Christina Ricci, Jack Thompson, and Ruby Rose) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and was released internationally in 2014. Sarah won several awards for Around The Block including an Australian Director’s Guild Award.
Sarah’s current slate spans the globe with series in development in the US and UK. She is out with Wall to Wall productions on the series Zero Hour, based on Counting to Zero by AJ Quinn and is developing an original idea with Wall to Wall entitled Shadows. She has written the pilot and is developing a series, Fontaine, with Kevin Brown and Lawrence Bender, based on The Body Reader by Anne Frasier, and is currently attached as the writer/creator of a YA series based on a bestselling book franchise by acclaimed author Meg Cabot. Sarah also has a high concept historic fiction series in development based on the books When Women Were Warriors, and a one-hour TV drama series Rebel in development with Jay Firestone and Prodigy Pictures, for which she created and co-wrote the pilot. Rebel has been adapted into a graphic novel and comic book series released by Joe Books Inc, currently in its fifth edition.
On the feature side Sarah is attached to direct the Australian film True Spirit for Sunstar Entertainment, based on the true story of Jessica Watson, the youngest person to complete a southern hemisphere solo circumnavigation. In the US, she has co-written and is attached to direct No Fear In Love with producer Mark Harris (Crash) starring Juno Temple.
Sarah has directed hours of television for Australia’s National Indigenous Television Network and multiple American and Australian television commercials and branded content. Sarah divides her time between Australia, LA, and London, and is consistently creating quality film, television and digital content in all corners of the globe.
