Robert Sarkies is a New Zealand based director. His feature debut was black comedy Scarfies, an cult hit that won Best Film and Best Director at the 2000 NZ Film and TV Awards and took over $1.2 million at the NZ box office. His follow up film, Out of the Blue, also took $1.2 million at the NZ box office and won Best Film at the NZ Film and TV Awards. Robert’s third feature, black comedy Two Little Boys, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2012 and was released by Hopscotch.
Robert was lead director on This Is Not My Life, which won Best Television Drama at the 2010 NZ Film and TV Awards. He directed on the second series of Wanted for the Seven Network, and telefeatures Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story for TV1 New Zealand and Jean for Lippy Pictures and TVNZ. Consent won Best Television Feature at the New Zealand Film and TV Awards in 2014, while Jean recently received nine awards at the 2017 New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards, including the Silver Medal for Best Direction, and four awards at the NZ TV Craft Awards, including Best Feature Drama and Best Direction.
