Peter Salmon is a director, producer and writer whose work spans network, cable and premium television drama. Over the last four years, Peter has set up a number of shows including the Nine Network’s hit drama Doctor Doctor (now in its 3rd season) and Rake (now in series 5). His other television credits include a modern retelling of Anna Karenina in The Beautiful Lie, Secrets and Lies, Offspring, Nowhere Boys, and Mr and Mrs Murder. Peter directed on the second series of the acclaimed thriller/comedy Wanted for Matchbox Pictures, which earned him a NZ TV Award for Best Director for a Drama Program. He also directed the Australian/US co-production Harrow starring Ioan Gruffudd for Hoodlum Entertainment, and in 2018, he produced the third series of Wanted.
Peter began his career young as writer/director on New Zealand’s teen-comedy/drama Being Eve. Peter’s other NZ credits include Outrageous Fortune, Go Girls and Agent Anna. Peter also wrote and directed three award-winning short films, with Fog premiering in competition at Cannes Critics Week and Letters About the Weather being awarded a Special Jury prize at Clermont Ferrand.
In 2016, Peter was nominated for an Australian Directors Guild award for The Beautiful Lie, following two nominations in 2015 for both Secrets and Lies and Nowhere Boys. Nowhere Boys went on to be nominated for several awards including the British Academy Children’s Award and the Priz Jeunesse International and winning an International Emmy, a Logie and an Australian Academy Award (AACTA) for Best Children’s Television Series. In addition, Rake and The Beautiful Lie were nominated for Best Television Drama Series at the 2016 AACTA Awards.
Most recently Peter directed Halifax: Retribution for Nine Network. He also just wrapped as director on Mystic, a Libertine Picture / CBBC production that will air next year.
