TRUDY HELLIER

After training and working as an actor for a number of years, Trudy began writing and directing at La Mama in 1996 with the short play Trapped, which has consequently had numerous productions and was recorded for by ABC Radio National. Her second play Blind Faith was nominated for a Greenroom award in 2001.

While studying screen writing at RMIT Trudy wrote the short film, Break & Enter (two 1999 AFI awards) in 1997. Since then she has written and directed a short film version of Trapped, which was funded by the AFC and has toured to numerous national and international film festivals. She is currently working on a feature film, Car City which has also received support from the AFC and film Victoria.

Recent appearances as an actor include programs such as MDA, Welcher and Welcher, Marshall Law, Frontline, Round the Twist, Sea Change, and many others.

TRAPPED

Trapped is a black comedy exploring the power of romantic love, voyeurism and the effects of physical and emotional isolation.

Fran lives in an apartment opposite a men's prison. Although she can't see the men, she knows they can see her. Fran has learnt to cope with this invasion in her own special way. But when she gets a new flat mate, Jacky, things start to change. Jacky, obsessed with the constantly prying eyes of the men, becomes a prisoner in her own home.

Meanwhile Mat and his cellmate, Angus, spend their entire time watching the women. By sitting on each other's shoulders they have a limited view into the women's kitchen, allowing them a tiny glimpse of heaven. Eventually Mat's unable to leave his cell as his entire existence is linked to Jacky and observing, listening to her every movement. While Angus and Fran hatch a daring escape plan.

    Blind Faith is a comedy that explores the unrealistic expectations created by an internet relationship. Physically haunted by their alter egos, Ethan and Jenny must defy their own cliched fantasies in order to find real satisfaction.
