Jane AllenScreenwriter | Script Producer

A former lawyer, Jane was co-executive producer and writer on In Our Blood (Hoodlum Entertainment), a musical drama about Australia’s response to AIDS in the 1980s, for the ABC, nominated for Most Outstanding Drama, 2023 Logie Awards.  She also produced and was the lead writer for the award winning ABC legal drama, Janet King – the first Australian primetime drama to have a lesbian lead character. Janet King was a spinoff of prosecution drama Crownies, on which Jane produced and led the writing team. She was also a writer and producer on the Indigenous sci-fi ABC series Cleverman.

Jane’s recent work includes writing for Last King of the Cross (Helium/Paramount+) based on John Ibrahim’s memoir of the same name, writing and script producing for crime drama Troppo (Beyond Entertainment/EQ/ABC), writing for 100% Wolf: Legend of the Moonstone (ABC / Flying Bark Productions), writing Halifax: Retribution (Nine Network), which was nominated for a 2020 AACTA award for Best Drama Series, writing for season two of The Heights (ABC), writing for animation The New Legends of Monkey (Netflix), and The Unlisted which won the 2020 Prix Jeunesse International Award for Outstanding Children’s Television.

In May 2023 Jane completed Jeff Melvoin’s Showrunner Training in Los Angeles, as part of The Creators’ Initiative, a program developed by the Australian Writers Guild, and Screen Australia.

Jane worked as script editor on the US series Hunters for Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, The Walking Dead), and spent three months in the script department of CSI on an International Fellowship.

In 2018/19, Jane was the Australian Antarctic Division artistic fellow, spending three months as a summer expeditioner at Mawson Research Station where she developed a TV series about living and working in Antarctica.
