Davie Paterson is a self-taught, up-and-coming writer/director whose distinctive voice, unique sense of humour, and particular sharpness with dialogue led to his first professional writing assignment with Hopscotch Films/eOne under the mentorship of John Collee (Happy Feet), which started his writing career.

Drawn to the stories of survivors, minorities, and the disabled community, and usually within or surrounding the world of crime, Davie has written on films and adaptations for Truant Pictures (Animal Logic), Arcadia Films, Bronte Pictures, and eOne, as well as treatments and scripts for Google, YouTube, Land Rover + Wallabies Rugby Australia, Optus + XXI Commonwealth Games, Wotif, Westfield and others.

After his first spec script, Rattle earned him wins at Beverly Hills, Oregon, and European Independent Film Festivals as a youngster, his short documentary Boné inspired and later led the rehabilitation initiative ‘Mates on the Move’ by the Prisoners Aid Association of NSW.

He is a two-time winner of the UK Film Festival’s Script Competition (in 2016 for Cottontail and in 2020 for What Did You Do, Sweet Mary Lou?), the latter of which is currently in development. His spec The Blind Sea, about a mother whose daughter goes missing, who then seeks the help of a once brilliant investigator, now blind misanthrope (also in development), earned the Grand Prize at Shore Scripts in 2020, a win at Dallas International Film Festival in 2021, as well as a seat at the Oscars Gala Screening in 2023.
