Daniel Edmonds is a music director, composer, arranger and pianist. His musical vision has won him critical acclaim across a large range of genres and settings. In the theatre, he was the musical director and conductor for the world premiere of musicals King Kong, Strictly Ballroom and Dream Lover. For Strictly Ballroom, he worked closely with the film’s original creative team, including Baz Luhrmann. King Kong was an ambitious collaboration with an international creative team, and artists including Marius De Vries, Sarah McLachlan, Massive Attack, Guy Garvey and The Avalanches. Other theatrical credits include Chicago, Fame, Hairspray, and Only Heaven Knows at the Hayes Theatre. Most recently, Daniel music directed the Australian touring production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
He has written music and songs for screen and stage, including short films Butcherbird (directed by Dave Paterson) and The Suitor (directed by Kate Riedl), as well as Guy Edmonds and Matt Zeremes’ feature Super Awesome. Daniel wrote songs and an original score for La Boite’s production of The Wind In The Willows, which toured nationally in 2017. Daniel is also the arranger and music director for Hugh Sheridan’s international music group, California Crooners Club, which was a Best-of-Fringe Award winner at the Adelaide Fringe.
Daniel has appeared on stages in Australia, New Zealand, London and New York with acclaimed artists Meow Meow, Caroline O’Connor, Simon Burke, David Campbell, Rhonda Burchmore, Paul Capsis and, most recently, Lea Salonga. He has also recorded and produced numerous albums, and given masterclasses at home and abroad.
