Belinda Chayko is an award-winning writer and director of premium content across film and television. Her most recent writing credits for television include the PTSD event mini-series Fighting Season (Foxtel), the asylum seeker thriller Safe Harbour (SBS), Secret City (Foxtel) and Barracuda (ABC), an adaptation of Christos Tsolkias’ novel, which was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Miniseries and for which Belinda won an AWGIE Award. Both Safe Harbour and Fighting Season were nominated for 2018 AWGIE Awards, and Safe Harbour recently won the 2018 Silver Bird Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards, and the 2018 AACTA Award for Best Screenplay in Television.
Belinda’s 2010 feature film Lou screened in competition at a number of international film festivals, including Busan, Rome and Palm Springs. Lou also won the Audience Award for Best Feature and the Graine de Cinéphage Jury Prize at the Festival International de Films de Femmes de Créteil, and the Grand Jury Prize at the St Tropez Film Festival. Her first feature, City Loop, premiered in the Discovery Section of the Toronto International Film Festival and screened at a number of other festivals worldwide.
Belinda has also made a number of award-winning short films, and wrote the AWGIE award-winning telemovie, Saved (SBS). Belinda has written on a number of television projects including Old School (ABC) for Matchbox Pictures and Newton’s Law and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (ABC) for Every Cloud Productions. She is currently in development on several film and television projects.
