WESLEY ENOCH

Wesley Enoch is the eldest son of Doug and Lyn Enoch, who hail from Stradbroke Island.

In 2007, Wesley directed Howard Brenton's Paul and Alana Valentine's Parramatta Girls. Also his play The Story of the Miracles of Cookie's Table, was directed by Marion Potts for the Griffin Theatre Company. Wesley was the winner of the 2005 Patrick White Playwright's Award for this play.

Wesley directed Louis Nowra's classic Capricornia and Maralinga by Paul Brown in 2006 for Company B, Belvoir St. He directed Riverland for Windmill Performing Arts and the Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth International Festivals. That same year, Wesley directed Rainbow's End for Ilbijerri and Bitin' Back for Kooemba Jdarra as well as Headhunter for Polygot Puppet Theatre/Ilbigerri.

While Resident Director with Sydney Theatre Company (STC), his productions included Black Medea, The Sunshine Club, Black-ed Up, and The Cherry Pickers, which toured to the UK. In 2002, STC remounted The 7 Stages of Grieving, co-written with Deborah Mailman.   Previous directing credits include The Dreamers and Conversations with the Dead for Company B; Stolen, which premiered at Playbox; His production of The Sapphires for Melbourne Theatre Company was a huge success and was remounted for the 2005 Sydney Festival.

Wesley has been Artistic Director of Kooemba Jdarra Indigenous Performing Arts and Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre, an Associate Artist with the Queensland Theatre Company, Resident Director at the Sydney Theatre Company, Director of the Indigenous section of the opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth and is currently the Associate Artistic Director at Company B, a Trustee of the Sydney Opera House, and a member of the NSW Government Arts Advisory Council.
